Booster Pump Maintenance

Vacuum Booster Pumps are used to support higher pumping speeds and improve the performance of vacuum systems. During continuous operation in factories, pump performance may deteriorate due to wear, dust and contaminants, operating temperatures, or issues related to the vacuum system.

Regular maintenance helps businesses maintain pump performance, prevent failures, and reduce the risk of unplanned downtime.

ULVAC Vietnam provides inspection, maintenance, and repair services for vacuum booster pumps, supporting factories in maintaining the stable operation of their vacuum systems.

1. Why Is Regular Maintenance of Vacuum Booster Pumps Necessary?

Roots Booster Pumps play an important role as an effective “assistant” in increasing pumping speed and expanding the vacuum pressure range of production systems. However, because the pump operates at very high rotational speeds and has extremely small mechanical clearances between the rotor blades, it is highly sensitive to dust and deterioration of the lubricating oil. Failure to carry out regular inspection and maintenance can lead to serious consequences:

  • Gear and bearing leakage and wear: Lubricating oil for the gears and bearings can deteriorate or become contaminated over time, resulting in reduced lubrication performance, wear of the transmission mechanism, and hardening of the oil seals, leading to oil leakage into the vacuum chamber.
  • Rotor collision and pump chamber seizure: Accumulated contaminants combined with shaft misalignment caused by bearing wear can easily cause collisions between the two counter-rotating rotors or between the rotors and the pump chamber wall, resulting in seizure and complete damage to the pump chamber.
  • Reduced pumping speed and motor overload: Deposits or air leakage in the pump can seriously reduce booster performance, resulting in longer evacuation times and causing the motor to overheat and become overloaded, potentially leading to burnout.
  • Risk of production line shutdown and high repair costs: A sudden failure of the booster pump can cause the entire vacuum system to stop operating, interrupting the production line and resulting in significant costs for replacing precision mechanical components.

Maintenance intervals recommended by the manufacturer:

  • Lubricating oil replacement for gears/bearings: Perform after every 2,000–4,000 operating hours (or every 6 months, depending on operating conditions).
  • Overhaul and comprehensive inspection (seal replacement, bearing replacement, and rotor cleaning): Perform every 1–2 years to ensure proper mechanical clearances and safe operation.

2. ULVAC Vietnam Provides Vacuum Booster Pump Maintenance and Repair Services

Depending on the model and actual condition of the equipment, ULVAC Vietnam can provide support for:

  • Checking the operating condition of the Vacuum Booster Pump.
  • Checking vacuum performance and the ability to achieve the required vacuum level.
  • Checking vibration, noise, and temperature.
  • Checking the motor and related components.
  • Checking the internal condition of the pump.
  • Cleaning necessary components.
  • Inspecting components showing signs of wear.
  • Repairing or replacing components when necessary.
  • Checking the pump operation after maintenance.

The scope of work will be determined based on the model, equipment condition, and the customer’s actual operating requirements.

In particular, we provide readily available spare parts and fast support to minimize equipment downtime.

3. Maintenance Support for Multiple Vacuum Pump Brands

ULVAC Vietnam not only supports ULVAC Booster Vacuum Pumps but can also inspect and maintain equipment from other brands, depending on the model and construction.

This service is suitable for factories operating vacuum systems that use equipment from multiple brands.

The feasibility of maintenance and repair will be evaluated by our engineers in advance based on the actual condition of the equipment.

4. 24/7 Troubleshooting Support

In cases where a Vacuum Booster Pump encounters a failure that affects production operations, ULVAC Vietnam provides 24/7 troubleshooting support.

Some situations requiring urgent support include:

  • Pump does not operate.
  • Pump is seized.
  • Motor overheats or burns out.
  • Abnormally increased vibration.
  • Pump produces loud or abnormal noise.
  • Required vacuum level cannot be achieved.
  • Vacuum system operates unstably.

Our engineers provide support to assess the equipment condition, identify the cause, and recommend an appropriate solution, helping businesses reduce downtime and minimize the impact on production.
